James F. Haggerty, Senior Counselor to Brody Berman Associates has 25 years of experience in marketing, public relations, and public affairs. An attorney, he has a national reputation in the fields of professional and financial services marketing, public affairs, and crisis and litigation communications. Jim is the author of In the Court of Public Opinion, a critically-acclaimed book about the new role of public relations in winning and successfully defending litigation. Ragan’s Media Relations Reports has called him “one of the nation’s foremost experts in Litigation PR.” Jim is also President of The PR Consulting Group in New York, with which Brody Berman Associates has worked since 2001.
Jim has been involved in numerous high-profile crisis matters and legal disputes — including the largest intellectual property verdict, several of the largest antitrust cases, the largest lawsuit ever filed against the United States government, and the largest single-family Holocaust restitution claim.
Building upon his work as a consultant, Jim is also a well-recognized writer. In 2012 and 2013, Jim was nominated for a Neal Award, considered “the most prestigious editorial award in business-to-business journalism,” for his monthly column in American Lawyer’s Corporate Counsel magazine. He is the only full-time public relations professional ever to be honored in such a manner. A frequent writer and lecturer on communications issues, his articles and other writings have appeared in The New York Times, The National Law Journal, and Law Practice Management.
Jim holds a B.A. from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and studied law at Fordham University in New York and Stetson University in St. Petersburg, Florida, where was awarded the J.D. He is admitted to practice law in New York and Florida and is a member of the Counselors Academy of the Public Relations Society of America.
